“In the past few years, Nancy has become our guardian angel. She has always been there for our family in so many ways. Her professional recommendations and prompt replies to any situation provides stability when there was none. Nancy has taught is to feel more secure, and skilled in coping with the inevitable situations that occur when mental illness touches a family.”
How I Can Help Your Family
I practice Solution-Focused Family Therapy. In our sessions we will identify the problem, and find the solution together. We will focus – not on just what is wrong- but what is also strong in your family. And we will build on those strengths together to find stability for your family once again.
Individual Family Therapy
Individual Family Therapy allows a family member or group of concerned significant others (CSO’s) to attend therapy together without the afflicted person, to process their own feelings of frustration and helplessness.
Conjoint Family Therapy
There comes a time when it might be necessary to involve your afflicted loved-one in Family Therapy sessions. At the right time, you can voice concerns, examine options, find solutions, make decisions, and move forward together while strengthening your relationships.
Multi-Family Support Groups
In addition to working individually with you and your family, Group Therapy might be beneficial. Participating in a group with other families will offer you a support network of peers - who have “lived experience”- who can guide you on your journey as they share their story. You will learn the most valuable lesson of all: you are not alone in this uncharted territory.
Psycho-Educational Workshops
Everyone talks a lot about powerlessness and yes, there are many things you have no control over. But you can influence and support your loved one if you are equipped with accurate information. Knowledge is powerful. Participating in these structured workshops will help you better understand what your afflicted loved one is going through, what you can do to help, and what behaviours you might be doing that triggers, hinders or enables your loved-one.
"Dinnerventions"
If you’ve ever watched the TV show ”Intervention” you might have misconceptions about how to get your loved one to accept treatment. Those “old school” interventions with the element of surprise, confrontation, and ultimatums rarely work. Unless an individual recognises they have a problem, and sincerely wants help- they can’t be coaxed or threatened into seeking help.
Teletherapy
Teletherapy is a game-changer. One silver lining of the pandemic might be the emergence of online therapy. Teletherapy is, in fact, more common than ever! And thanks to the popularity of Teletherapy, I am now able to reach additional families in crisis, delivering help and hope to more families who are suffering.
